mESSAGE ON 10/8

Dear studio parents/students

I just returned from my Korea trip to some great news! Mrs. Tina Studio students ACED their first youth symphony auditions! Big congratulations to:

  • Cameron - Principal Cello of Grand Rapids Youth  Symphony
  • Kaylee - Principal Cello of St. Cecilia Philharmonic
  • Sophia – Fourth chair cello Grand Rapids Youth Symphony
  • … and FINALLY our favorite 6th grader musicians Parker & Emma, who made top stands in their sections of Grand Rapids Youth Symphony & St. Cecilia Concert Orchestra, respectively. Both kids stick out as only high schoolers are seated near them lol!!

Here is the latest version of NO LESSON DAYS. Please mark them in your calendars:

  • Thursday, Oct. 8 (after Nolan’s lesson) – Cameron’s ESME rehearsal
  • Saturday, Oct. 10 after 4PM – Cameron/Sophia ESME concert
  • Oct. 16 – 18 Cameron’s Solo Recital at Korean Cultural Center of Chicago
  • Sunday, Oct. 25 – Cameron’s Grosse Pointe Symphony Solo Performance

… Sunday students: Some of you have not rescheduled with me! As you can see here, I will see you on Oct. 11, but there are NO MORE SUNDAYS FREE in October, so please contact me to reschedule if you haven’t already, especially if you'd like to participate in the November recital!

Finally, I revised and posted my LESSON POLICIES. Please review these with your kids, as it makes very clear what my expectations are for lessons. It is both parents’ and students’ responsibility to follow these policies. I pasted them below for your convenience:

If you don't know already, all of my announcements are posted on this website.

Dear studio parents/students,

Hope you are all doing well and adjusting well to back to school routines!

  1. First off, many of you are still not seeing my emails, so please bookmark the website page I created for my studio.

https://westmichiganlivemusic.com/lessons

This website contains all the messages I sent you thus far, so if you lost one or two of them, you can catch up with my messages on this page. It is your responsibility to stay current with all my announcements, some of which are stating important information regarding my schedule. I will still send emails but they will serve more as notifications to check my website for those of you who are not getting to my emails.

  1. COME SEE Cameron and Sophia perform their solos with the ESME orchestra – Oct. 10 at 6-8PM at DeVos Place.

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/harmony-of-hope-tickets-1998166257064

Though tickets are $100, I can get you tickets for $20 through a special friends and family discount. PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ATTENDING!

  1. Reminder that I will be in Seoul, Korea, leaving this Friday and returning on Oct. 5. I contacted all of you individually to reschedule lessons for the week of my return, week of Oct. 5, if your lesson landed on a Monday or Saturday late afternoon/evening (Cameron’s ESME concert).
  2. The following weekend, Cameron has his Korean Cultural Center Solo Recital (Oct. 16 – 18), and makeup lessons will be on a first come first served basis. If your lesson falls in this time      period and you’d like a makeup lesson, reach out to me ASAP (before I leave for Korea, preferably) to reschedule. I may give priority to students who are performing in the recital over others, as that is coming up.
  3. There will be lessons on Saturday, Oct. 24, but NO LESSONS ON SUNDAY OCT. 25, as Cameron is soloing with the Grosse  Pointe Symphony Orchestra that day. Again, if you want to reschedule, please reach out to me.

HERE IS A SUMMARY OF MY NO LESSON DAYS:

  • Sept 25 - Oct 5, as I will be in Korea
  • Oct. 8 after 4:30 - Cameron's rehearsal
  • Oct. 10 after 4PM – Cameron’s ESME concert
  • Oct. 16 – 18 Korean Cultural Center of Chicago Solo Recital
  • Oct. 25, as Cameron will be soloing with the Grosse Pointe Symphony that evening

After this, my schedule will go back to normal.

Have a great day!

Mrs. Tina

Dear studio parents/students,

I paid the deposit of $170 for booking the recital room. The total amount for rental is $340. A recommended recital fee is: $20 for one performer, $25 for two performers, $30 for three performers, or $35 for four or more performers – see amount owed below. You can just add your recital fee to your next lesson payment.

Please see the list of recital performers (see below). Don’t be alarmed by this long list 😊. Around 20 of these 30 performances will be one to two minutes long. For the longer pieces, there will be no repeats or they may be truncated. For those of you who haven’t told me your piece, please try to keep it on the shorter side. Note - If your name is not on this list, it’s because I have not received an email stating you’re interested in the recital.

Finally, I have to start learning my piano accompaniments this week! If you’d like me to accompany your child, please lock down your recital piece at your next lesson so I can print out all the accompaniments and start learning them. As a reminder, I don’t charge an accompanist fee.

Thanks,

Mrs. Tina

PERFORMERS LIST FOR MRS. TINA’S FALL STUDIO RECITAL

Message on 9/9

Dear studio parents/students,

Thank you all for getting back to me about your availability. I’m happy to report that we found a recital time/venue that works for everyone:

Sunday, November 8, between 1-5PM

Wege Recital Hall at St. Cecilia’s

* I booked the hall for 4 hours. It will most likely start at 1:30.

I’ll send more details about the recital later, but please enter this time block into your calendars now.

We have 8 weeks to prepare for the recital, and I will be in Korea for 2 of those weeks. If you’d like to prepare a longer piece, like Suzuki Book 4, please get started on it this week or plan to perform your current piece.

Best wishes,
Mrs. Tina

Message on 9/8

Dear studio parents/students,

Our fall studio recital is about two months away, and I’d like to get a sense of everyone's preference for the date and location before booking. I know fall schedules can be moving targets, but please let me know your current and projected availability.

Date Options (Afternoons):

  • Saturday, Nov 7, 14, or 21
  • Saturday, Dec 5 or 19

Venue Options:

  • West Michigan Piano: If held here, the studio will need to split into two separate recitals to fit everyone.
  • St. Cecilia Music Center (Wege Recital Hall): If held here, I will need to collect a small      donation/fee from each participant to cover the venue rental.

Please send your date and venue preferences directly to me via direct message (please do not hit "Reply All"). I need to book St. Cecilia’s soon if we choose that venue, so your prompt response is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Mrs. Tina

Message on 9/4

Dear studio parents/students,

Please note the very important points below.

  • First off, I'm expecting all of my Saturday, Sunday and Monday students this Labor Day weekend. The only person who cancelled is someone from today. So if you plan on missing lesson this Labor Day weekend, please let me know ASAP.
  • I've had some issues with students and parents not seeing some of my emails, so moving forward, I will have ALL STUDIO ANNOUNCEMENTS on this website: https://westmichiganlivemusic.com/lessons
  • When a new message has been posted, I will send you texts to remind you to check the website. Please forgive the large font on the page. It's a work in progress!
  • Please note the final fall/spring lesson times above.
  • I told you earlier that I wanted to steer clear of teaching on weekdays, but I couldn't avoid it, as I still have over 30 lessons (despite some departures from my studio). It's impossible to fit them all in on the weekends.
  • I will reserve Tuesdays and Fridays after school times for makeup lessons.

NO LESSONS ON THE FOLLOWING DATES (PLEASE MARK IN YOUR CALENDAR)

If you have a lesson during one of these dates, please let me know if you'd like me to reschedule your lesson. There will be no rescheduling of missed lessons during my Korea trip.

  • Sept 25 - Oct 5, as I will be in Korea
  • Oct. 8 after 4:30 - Cameron's rehearsal
  • Oct. 10 after 4PM – Cameron’s ESME concert
  • Oct. 16 – 18 Korean Cultural Center of Chicago Solo Recital
  • Oct. 25, as Cameron will be soloing with the Grosse Pointe Symphony that evening
